Review: Kid Konnect – The Epic

Talk about getting lost in a record! The Epic by Kid Konnect is like a time capsule from the end of New Ykonnectork’s hip-hop golden era. If you know an ill lyricist from NY, get them the Kid Konnect beat tape immediately. I was imagining verses from active artists on each of the tape’s 5 solid tracks. The feeling on these beats is that someone harnessed the power of early RZA with the spirit of the late J. Dilla and remade their beats with Guru’s drum kit. (There are also some sounds that remind of DJ Premiere, only with slightly less polish.) The Epic is a breath of fresh air for those of us that have been attempting to extract clean breathing air from the production climate of today’s hip hop scene. Read more…
